March 7: Moonbeam Flora Workshop with Tyler Thrasher

Join Tyler Thrasher and learn how to make your own glowing flora to bring a little fantasy into your home. Double coat dried and preserved invasive plants in incredibly bright phosphorescent mineral powder.  Each piece can be charged in sunlight, artificial light, UV light, even heat and will glow for several hours.

This is a 21+ event. A cash bar will be available.

Time: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Cost: $40 with a discounted price of $35 for GRPM members

March 8: The Intersection of Art and Nature featuring Artist and Author Tyler Thrasher

The Intersection of Art and Nature is a series of interactive programs that explores artistic inspiration drawn from our exhibits and nature. Activities will include floral prints, blue plate rubs, found object boutiques and more. Visiting artist Tyler Thrasher will host an art booth where you can learn more about his process and purchase his fantastic creations.

Time: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Lecture and Book Signing: Tyler Thrasher presents The Universe in 100 Colors

Artist and author Tyler Thrasher will discuss his latest publication The Universe in 100 Colors followed by a Q & A and book signing.

At the intersection of science, art, and design, this must-have coffee table book highlights 100 mind-blowing colors that you’ve likely never seen before. This gorgeous compendium contains 100 amazing colors that you might otherwise live your whole life unaware of. These colors exist in the strangest of places, and serve extremely specific functions in nature, or were human-made with one goal in mind.

In this oversized, design-forward book you’ll find entries for each of the 100 colors, organized in gradient order, with structural and impossible colors set at the end. Each entry has a 2-page spread with a full-page image of the color plus snappy descriptions, and easy-to-understand category symbols. Some entries include diagrams. Even includes structural colors and colors outside the range of human visibility! Also included is a brief introduction to color theory, a myth-busting section, plus index, glossary, and notes.

Time: 11 a.m.

Between his pursuits to crystallize the world, opalize everything, and hunt down some of the realm’s most unique plants, his passion to combine art and science every step of the way is his fire and fuel.

Tyler has a wide range of projects under his belt including but not limited to crystallizing insects, creating some of the world’s first and only opalized insects and flowers,  hybridizing plants and creating new cultivars, capturing the natural world through illustration, creating a series of scientific and strange alchemy inspired toys, and a few published books including The Wisdom of the Furnace, Grow a Damn and his  latest book The Universe in 100 Colors.

On Saturday, May 11, the Museum will open at 12 p.m. due to road closures for the Amway River Bank Run.
